The Pitch

Could you be a Dragon as part of the Spelthorne NCS programme?

The National Citizen Service is an action-packed programme for young people aged 15 – 17 to try new things, gain new skills and challenge themselves!

There’s a variety of dates to choose from and it takes place outside of term in summer and autumn or over half term.

NCS Programme Involves:

-A short adventure away from home
-Developing new skills and meeting new people
-Team-building activities
-A unique experience to come up with your own project

NCS Phase 3: Social Action

An important part of the NCS programme is that each team plans and executes a Social Action project. This social action project includes a fundraising, campaigning and volunteering day for the team’s community partner. The Pitch (previously known as Dragons Den) comes at the end of an intense few days of planning and gives the young people a chance to present their strategy and ideas to you so they can turn their plans into reality.

At the event you will see between 5-7 teams who will pitch their plans for their Social Action Project, which they will be carrying out the following week. Your role will be to give advice and expertise to improve their project and make it even more impactful.

On this day you have a positive influence on the young people’s social actions:
•Your questions & feedback help improve the quality of Social Action Projects.
•You help decide whether (and how much) groups receive funding from NCS to go towards their projects.
•Your presence as part of an influential panel of Advisors demonstrates to the young people that their Social Action projects are important, and this encourages accountability.
