James Howden: Cyber-Crime
James is a Detective in the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit and a Cyber Security Advisor. He has responsibility for providing training, advice and guidance to all businesses including the public sector and specialist police departments. James delivers cyber-crime presentations and workshops to raise awareness and find solutions to cyber security challenges.
James has investigated numerous high profile cyber-crime cases including the 2014 Sony PlayStation hack on Christmas day; the infiltration of top US official’s email accounts; cyber-attacks on well-known global companies and UK based businesses. James has 14 years’ experience in policing and investigative experience focussed around serious crime.
James has a degree in Cybernetics and previously spent five years in the IT industry as a software developer. He is currently studying for a Masters in Cyber Security and the CISSP certification in information security. He has a commendation for investigation skills following a successful conviction of attempted murder of a shooting.
James is a part of the PROTECT initiative to build relationships with industry to help tackle these cyber trends and mitigate against the threat of serious and organised crime.
The presentation will focus on the importance of people and processes to mitigate the threat of cybercrime. James is working with private and public sectors to promote a security culture through an awareness programme delivered to businesses and promoting a ‘black box’ ethos.
James will address topics such as Phishing Fraud (Mandate and CEO), Ransomware, DDOS attacks, social media security, cyber hygiene and basic mitigation techniques.
Simon Jeffs: General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
Simon has worked in the data and direct marketing industry for nearly 18 years across agency, client and supplier side roles. His experience covers the use of data to provide customer insight and the development and build of databases in order to support targeted one to one communications. He has developed and implemented eCRM strategies for a range of clients both in the UK and across Europe including Liberty Global, Virgin Media, MSD and TUI and is an active member of the DMA (Direct Marketing Association) Email Marketing Council and their Legal and Best Practice Hub.
Simon is the founder of List Genie (www.listgenie.co.uk), an email quality and deliverability tool that ensures real time email data accuracy and viability, and Consultant for the Data Compliance Doctors, specialising in outsourced DPO capability, data protection best practice and GDPR compliance planning.
Presentation summary
In the context of the GDPR legislation, Simon will highlight the key considerations for marketers, state the requirements about data audits / personal data including the what, where and how. He will then go on to explain the legal considerations and implications around consent and legitimate interest with regards to emails. Nick Moon: Business Resilience – why it’s important and how to do it.
Nick Moon is the Managing Director of Applied Resilience, a Public Service Mutual, offering emergency planning, counter terrorism and business support to all sectors. Nick has managed large and diverse risk areas as well as being heavily involved in high profile planning and incidents, including the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, EU emergency planning exercises and the Local Authority tactical lead for the severe flooding of 2014 response and recovery. Applied Resilience works with several local authorities, schools and businesses to help prepare them for any major disruptive event.
