Does your business sell online products which are regulated for product safety?

If the answer is yes – then we can offer a FREE business education resource which is available to you for a limited time.

Buckinghamshire and Surrey Trading Standards are working with the UK Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), part of the Department of Business and Trade and the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) to understand whether working with your business and providing access to free training can improve a business’ knowledge and understanding of product safety and ultimately lead to safer consumer products being available online.

You may also have retail premises or sell only a few items on social media. This offer is applicable to all businesses that sell products online in the UK, whether a sole trader, micro, small, medium, and multi-national businesses. The project follows on from a successful pilot earlier this year and aims to provide support to even more businesses.

Businesses who took part in the pilot reported increased awareness, building a relationship with the regulator, receiving helpful advice and positive feedback on the educational resources made available. Many of them developed a plan for future actions to follow-up with.

This is a voluntary opportunity to increase your understanding of product safety regulation, and the programme has three elements:

1. An initial conversation with a Trading Standards Officer to discuss your approach to product procurement and understanding of product safety and online trading requirements.

2. Participation in free training workshops delivered by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI), and online materials and guidance to supplement the learning.

3. A final conversation between you and a Trading Standards Officer to establish the extent to which the training and guidance may have enhanced your capability on matters of consumer product safety and online trading.

This project runs now till the end of March 2025, register today.
