Surrey Chambers of Commerce has been designated as the Employer Representative Body (ERB) to create a Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) covering Surrey and North and Mid-Hampshire, funded by the Department for Education.

LSIP | Update on employer engagement
Through strong, pre-existing links with other business networks and LEPs, the LSIP already benefitted from a solid foundation of employer links. Since September, the team have built on this, through business development activity, events and via new links with business development teams in providers. This activity, together with various methods of engagement such as ‘Commitment Cards’ and the ‘Opportunities Tab’ help to maintain a strong dialogue with employers and support take-up of both LSIP and LSIF activities.

Supporting businesses to access “hidden” local talent As part of the research towards the LSIP report for our area, many businesses highlighted a need to improve diversity and inclusion in their workforce and welcomed support to help identify and engage with “hidden” pools of talent to help fill skills gaps. Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF) Colleges and Universities across Hampshire and Surrey are now working together to better support the skills needs of the local economy and labour market with the introduction of the LSIF (Local Skills Improvement Fund) Read here

More universities accepting T levels Across the LSIP area, universities have confirmed they will accept T Levels for entry onto at least one course at their institution. Great news for young people taking up this technical skills route. You can check out the full list of universities here

Surrey County Council – Apprenticeship and Workforce Planning Survey 2023/24 The survey particularly looks at how businesses are utilising apprentices and apprenticeship training within the workforce. The survey closes 31/01/24 and will take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.
