Shepperton Studios announces expansion plans

London, 14th June 2018: Shepperton Studios has begun consulting with the local authority and stakeholders on proposals to invest in the Studios to improve the existing facilities and expand onto adjacent land.

The emerging plans include the construction of a range of facilities such as new sound stages, offices, workshops, backlots, car parking and infrastructure, as well as a new access to the expansion site from Shepperton Road (B376).

Andrew Smith from Shepperton Studios said: “Shepperton Studios plays an important role in the successful UK film and television industry. The Studios attract major and independent production companies from around the world to shoot in the UK. Our proposals are designed to both improve and expand the existing facilities such that we can continue to meet the demand for high-end studio space and thus ensure the ongoing success of the UK’s creative sector.”

The proposed expansion to the Studios will bring wider economic, employment and educational benefits for Spelthorne. The expanded facilities will create jobs within the Borough and opportunities for people to enter the industry.”

“To help us deliver this essential private sector investment we will be working closely with the local authority, the local community and other key stakeholders including those in the film and television industry and we look forward to sharing our plans in the near future.”

With a history dating back to the early 20th Century, Shepperton Studios is home to some of the world’s best-loved films. The new plans mark the next phase of investment into the Studios and industry, creating a sustainable future for Shepperton Studios.

Before submitting a planning application for the studio expansion to Spelthorne Borough Council, Shepperton Studios will work with the local community, councillors and the film and television industry through a series of public events and through a consultation website at www.sheppertonstudiosconsultation.co.uk.

Cllr Ian Harvey, Leader of Spelthorne Borough Council said: “Our Council has been a strong supporter of Shepperton Studios because of its historical, cultural, economic and employment significance in the Borough. We welcome the fact that they are consulting widely at an early stage about their expansion plans and we look forward to seeing further details. I encourage residents to take the opportunity to attend these events to find out more and make their views known”.
