Small businesses all over the country are turning to solar power to lower their energy bills. Since2010, the cost of installing rooftop solar panels has declined by as much as 60%, according to Energy UK while public approval has remained consistently strong with 79% of people supporting solar projects according to YouGov.
For many businesses, the financial benefits have also been staggering.
The Sunbury Conservative Club is no different thanks to the work of Greencap Energy.
Greencap themselves have previously worked with high profile clients including Eton College, NHS hospitals and Richmond Charities. Since partnering with the Conservative Club they have worked to upgrade their energy infrastructure with huge financial benefits.
In April 2025 alone, the club saved over £940 on their energy bill from the panels they installed producing 2670 kWh of electricity.
Many small businesses are still unaware that they can sell their unused electricity generated by solar panels back to the grid. Under the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), energy companies will pay you for surplus power that isn’t consumed on-site. These payments can vary significantly, but most of the UK’s major suppliers currently offer around 15p per kilowatt hour.
Based on these estimates, the club could have earned nearly £100 in additional income over the course of a month – on top of the savings already made. Andrew Powell, Managing Director for Greencap Energy Ltd said:
