Volunteering Opportunities for Your Business in Spelthorne

We are looking for local businesses to volunteer to help contribute to these valuable services. There is a mix of commitment from weekly groups to one off events so you and your team can give as much time as you can spare to your community.

Walking for Health

Volunteers will join an enthusiastic team of leaders who lead short walks, designed for beginners, between one and three miles. There are walks at least three times a week in various areas of the Borough and surrounding areas. The walks are scheduled to suit the availability of leaders and there is no specified time commitment.

Cycling for Health

Cycling leaders volunteer to offer guided rides of around 6-12 miles during the week. The scheme is aimed at older adults and is suitable for those who are able to ride a bike and looking to join a sociable group. The rides are scheduled to suit the availability of leaders and there is no specified time commitment.

ParaSports Club

This club is held on Saturday mornings from 10.15-11.45am at Spelthorne Leisure Centre in Staines. The club is open to young people with disabilities aged 5-25 and their siblings and offers a variety of sports including goalball, table cricket and new age kurling. Volunteers assist members to participate in the various activities and we also welcome people who would be interested in designing a website or take on committee roles eg. secretary and treasurer.

Boccia Club

Open to adults with disabilities, this club is held on Thursday evenings from 6-7pm at Spelthorne Leisure Centre. Volunteers will support members to play boccia, which is a disability sport, similar to bowls and petanque. The aim of the game is to propel leather balls, coloured red or blue, close to a white target ball (the jack). It is played from a seated position and the ball can be moved with players’ hands, feet or an assistive device e.g. a head or hand pointer.

Specsavers Surrey Youth Games

Each year, Spelthorne Borough Council work with local sports clubs to host 6-8 weeks of free sports coaching for young people aged 7-16. There are numerous sports on offer including badminton, boxing, judo and rugby. Volunteers help deliver the coaching sessions and assist at the games weekend. The sessions start after Easter and run weekly until the event in June.

Marshals

The annual Staines 10K takes place in May and relies on volunteer marshals to guide people round the route. Spelthorne Council also organise one off events, for example, fun runs, which require volunteers.
